PRODUCTS - COTS / PREMIUM COTS CHASSIS

NIS has four chassis families each with its own set of features catered to a specific application type; Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) Chassis, Premium COTS Chassis, Rugged COTS Chassis, and μTCA Chassis. All chassis are equipped with IEEE-1101.1 compliant backplanes such as VME, VME64x, CompactPCI™, VITA-31/41/46, etc. In addition to these platforms, select chassis are also available with PCI backplanes, active motherboards in ATX or Server form factors, or completely custom / hybrid backplane solutions designed by NIS.

COTS Chassis

NIS’s standard COTS Chassis are a low cost and easy to maintain product. These chassis are available in various sizes with CompactPCI™ backplanes, fixed fan trays or hot swap plug in modules, and low cost ATX or 1+1 redundant plugin power supplies (see individual product descriptions). The Premium COTS Chassis line is designed for additional functionality and customization.

Premium COTS Chassis

NIS’s Premium COTS Chassis build on the standard COTS Chassis platform and have many features that make them stand out against the competition. Customers of the Premium COTS Chassis products require the low cost of COTS Chassis but the feature-set of the more robust and customizable RCOTS Chassis line.

The Premium models can accept any Eurocard Backplane as well as custom / hybrid designs; unlike the Standard COTS models which only accept cPCI backplanes.

Field replaceable fan trays utilize a separate intake and exhaust fan tray with an MTTR of <2 minutes. These field replaceable units (FRU) are affixed to the main chassis using captive hardware.

A System Health Monitor (SM) can optionally be installed to locally or remotely monitor and control the chassis parameters to ensure optimal operating conditions. The fans’ rotational speed may also be manually controlled without the use of the SM in select models.

Peripherals can be added to any Premium COTS Chassis for added functionality. High reliability commercial-off-the-shelf products such as hard drives and optical drives can help complete any system.

TMP Series Power Supplies (NIS proprietary design) are used on all Premium COTS Chassis unless otherwise stated. These power supplies offer military grade reliability at a COTS price. Please contact NIS for additional information.
